Faithful Witness: Justice, Mercy, and Community in the Early Church
Saturday, May 30th @ 9:00am
We continue our series of monthly seminars at Council Tree presented by North Park Theological Seminary faculty. May’s seminar will be presented by Armida Belmonte Stephens, Teaching Fellow in the Theology Field.
What did the early Church believe about wealth, compassion, hospitality, and responsibility to their neighbors? In conversation with figures such as Basil the Great, Chrysostom, and Augustine, we’ll explore how the early Christians were known for caring for those in poverty, crossing social borders, and cultivating communities of mutual care that wrestled with questions of justice, power, and public witness in a complex and divided world and what those distinctive practices might mean for the church today.
