Check out our upcoming Christian Formation Hour classes. We would love for you to join us Sunday mornings at 9am for any or all of these offerings.

Sunday, January 11th - The World’s Most Celebrated Scientists - Taught by John Harvey

By January 11 you are expecting the holidays to be over, but wait!  For some holiday fun, we’ll look at the most celebrated scientists in the history of the world.  Hint – you have never thought of them as scientists before.

Sundays, January 18th - 25th - Where Did We Come From? Our Covenant Tradition - Taught by Mike Haddorff

This two-session class explores the story of the Evangelical Covenant as a living inheritance, shaped by common people responding to Christ in their time, and considers how that same story continues to shape our faith today. Together, we will reflect on how the Covenant story invites us not to look back, but to live faithfully forward.

Session 1: Our Shared History: We will trace the Covenant’s roots among the Swedish Readers and Mission Friends, exploring the spiritual longings, questions, and discoveries that gave rise to a warmer, Christ-centered faith.

Session 2: Covenant Today: This session turns to the present. We begin by identifying what shaped our Covenant founders: a consistent view of God, devotion to Scripture, and freedom in Christ that led to life in community. From there, we consider how these same convictions can inform how we live and follow Jesus today.

Sunday, February 1st - Does Science Speak For or Against God? - Taught by Paula Beaty

For many, science and religion have been at odds for decades if not for centuries. Yet, scientific revelations in the last few decades have provided support for the existence of God. We'll review the Fine-Tuning argument and discuss how science can be a tool to support our faith.

Sundays, February 8th - March 8th - From Abraham’s Journey to Mary’s Magnificat - Taught by John Harvey

Sometime after 2000 B.C, one man who lived in the city of Ur in the southern part of what is now Iraq did a remarkable thing. He listened to what God told him to do, and he did it. To the best of our knowledge, very little in society at that time would have prepared him for this idea. Furthermore, it was not a trivial task that he was given – after one journey of 600 miles, another of 400. With a retinue of men, women, children, and goats, they weren’t easy trips.

Yet, in the hands of God, the legacy of this one choice was enormous. Blessing, covenant, monotheism, kingdom, creator, omnipotence, glory, holiness, loving kindness, psalms, covenant, salvation, prophet, spirit, servant, triumph, Messiah, Savior, Lion, love, forgiveness, grace, sacrifice, faith, empowerment, church, hope, resurrection.

We are going to look at the development of Old Testament thought in five classes this spring, to see how the “simple” faith of Abraham morphed into Mary’s Magnificat – one of the most beautiful late Jewish expressions of faith.
