Kids Hope USA (KHUSA)

What is KIDS HOPE USA?

KHUSA is a partnership between a school and a church in which adults from the church mentor at-risk students from the school. Students meet once a week for one hour with a mentor – someone who is there just for them. This one-on-one attention of another caring and consistent adult in a student’s life makes a difference! When kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow, and succeed. Each mentor also has a prayer partner who supports the mentoring relationship.

How can I help?

You can become a mentor or a prayer partner.

Which school partners with Council Tree?

Our neighborhood elementary school, Werner Elementary, which is located at 5400 Mail Creek Lane.

What type of child would I mentor?

Children whose parents sign them up for Kids Hope have various needs, from academic to emotional. Most kids simply need an extra adult to whom they are special and appreciated.

I work during the day; How can I be a part of the KIDS HOPE team?

Many employers are grateful and proud to have their employees involved in such a worthwhile cause. Some employers give their employees flexibility with their schedules for the day they mentor. Others give an extended lunch hour and others may even pay their employees while they volunteer. Prayer partner volunteers can pray on their own time to back each mentor and student partnership.

I haven’t been to school in years. How will I know what to do?

You will complete an online training that covers everything you need to know. A Kids Hope website and app provide many ideas for the mentoring hour, and your Kids Hope directors are always available for advice and support.

I’m a student; can I be a mentor?

Yes! You must be at least 16 years old, have time available, have reliable transportation, and be dependable. We have had lots of students who are great mentors!
