About Council Tree Covenant Church

Our Story

The Evangelical Covenant Church of Fort Collins was officially planted in 1981 with the support of Loveland Covenant Church and the Midwest Conference, initially serving a largely young, college-age population connected to Colorado State University. Early gatherings took place on campus, in homes, and eventually at Rocky Mountain High School, while the congregation developed a strong emphasis on community, prayer, Bible study, outreach, and shared leadership. Under pastors including Rob Strouse and Tom Glossi, ECC grew in membership, ministries, missions, and leadership, eventually moving into a permanent facility on South Lemay Avenue in 1986 and expanding that facility in 1994 and again with a new sanctuary in 2005.

Throughout its history, the church emphasized discipleship, missions, children and youth ministry, outreach, spiritual formation, and creating a welcoming community where people could belong and grow in faith. The congregation also supported missionaries, participated in mission trips and international partnerships, planted another church in Windsor, and developed numerous ministries serving both the church and the surrounding community.

Our Time of Transition

At the end of 2025, Pastor Bert Wright resigned from his role as Lead Pastor at Council Tree Covenant Church after 27 years of faithful service. This was followed by the resignation this summer of our Children's Pastor who had contributed her gifts for over 20 years to our church.  In May, 2026, Pastor Heide Weibe answered our call for a Interim Pastor. She plans to serve part-time for twelve to eighteen months, guiding our congregation in our quest to hear God's vision for our church.

Our Denomination

Council Tree Covenant Church is a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church.  The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) is a Christian denomination founded in 1885, with roots in the Protestant Reformation, the Lutheran State Church of Sweden, pietism and moravianism. The Evangelical Covenant Church has more than 800 congregations in the United States and Canada and outreaches on five continents.

The Evangelical Covenant Church has a big tent mentality, echoing Psalm 119: “I am a companion of all who fear the Lord.” We are non-confessional, non-creedal and non-doctrinaire, and we hold the Word of God as the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct.
